Who says only the ladies can sparkle? A lot of times the male dancers will only wear a plain shirt with a pair of pants, because they are mainly the supporting partner and all the attention should be focused on the female part. We strongly believe that the male partner’s costume can be just as interesting as the female’s costume and whenever you’re on stage, try to add some sparkle, because the person in the back row needs to see you just as good as the front row.
Matching the Theme
Of course you do get scenes where the costumes are required to be a bit more neutral to compliment the mood of the scene, but we feel if you can just add a hint of sparkle, even if it is in a muted tone, it translates so much better on stage and adds to the WOW-moments. For this dance show, which theme was The Creation, we’ve created a costume portraying Adam and the unitard and pair of leggings was made with nylon-spandex. We’ve used three different colours of sequence for the tree branches, to add a bit of sparkle and the leaves was made from off-cut fabric and sequence.
Use of Fabric
Spandex is widely used in costumes for different sports like dancing and swimming, because of it’s extraordinary elasticity. You get different types of spandex blends like viscose-spandex, Cotton-spandex or nylon-spandex, which contributes to different characteristics like breathability, fabric weight, and the degree of stretch and recovery. Nylon-Spandex is a fabric most commonly used for dancewear, swimwear and athletic wear because it is so light-weight, very stretchy in both directions, somewhat water resistant, dries quickly and it comes with a sheen or matt finish.
