OWL Baby Rattle Pattern
This particular baby rattle I’ve made for a dear friend of mine’s daughter. We’ve been friends since school and it was so special that we could share our pragnancy journey’s together. Hope this inspires your to make one yourself.


Materials needed:
- DK yarn in different colours.
- 4mm Crochet hook
- Wooden ring
- Stuffing
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Bells (optional)
Notes
Level: Intermediate
Size: Approximately 11cm x 8cm
- US terminology is used.
- Skip the chain stitches at the beginning of the round and ss in the first sc. The chain stitches in the beginning of each round are there to make it easier to see the beginning of each row instead of sewing in one continuous round. If you decide to leave the chain stitches, use a stitch maker to keep count.

Right Eye:
With colour: White1) MR, ch2, 6sc, ss in 1st sc (6).2) ch1, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (12).3) ch1, 3sc, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (15).Fasten off and leave a long tail.
Join new colour: Pink
4) ch1, 1sc in same st, 2hdc, (2dc) times 3, (2hdc) times 2, (2sc) times 2, 1sc, ss in next st (18).
Fasten off and wave away ends.
Use a French knot and embroider the pupil in purple.
Left Eye:
With colour: White
1) MR, ch2, 6sc, ss in 1st sc (6).
2) ch1, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (12).
3) ch1, 3sc, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (15).
Fasten off and leave a long tail.
Join new colour: Pink
4) ch1, 1sc in next st, (2sc) times 2, (2hdc) times 2, (2dc) times 3, 2hdc, 1sc, ss in same st (18).
Fasten off and weave away ends.
Use a French knot and embroider the pupil in purple.

Ears (Make x2):
With colour: Purple
1) MR, ch2, 6sc, ss in 1st sc (6).
2) ch2, 6sc, ss in 1st sc (6).
3) ch2, 6sc, ss in 1st sc (6).
Fasten off and leave a long tail.
Hairs on the ears:
Pull the purple thread in the beginning through the hole of the MR.
Cut two strands (approximately 15cm long), one in white and the other one in pink and pull them through the MR.
With the 5 strands, tie a knot to secure.
Head:
With colour: Purple
1) MR, ch2, 6sc, ss in 1st sc (6).
2) ch1, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (12).
3) ch1, 1sc, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (18).
4) ch1, 2sc, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (24).
5) ch1, 3sc, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (30).
6) ch1, 4sc, sc inc, ss in 1st sc (36).
7-13) ch1, sc in each stitch around, ss in 1st sc (36).
14) ch1, 4sc, sc dec, ss in 1st sc (30).
15) ch1, 3sc, sc dec, ss in 1st sc (24).
16) ch1, 2sc, sc dec, ss in 1st sc (18).
Stuff the head with stuffing.
Join the eyes in the lower center part together and then sew them onto the head.
Embroider the nose with orange.
Sew the ears onto the head and pull the excess thread through the hole of the MR of the ears. Wrap the long purple strand a couple of times around the knot to hide it and secure. Trim hairs.
17) ch1, 1sc, sc dec, ss in 1st sc (12).
18) ch1, 1sc, sc dec, ss in 1st sc (6).
Fasten off using the magic loop method. Leave a long tail.

Rattle Ring:
With colour: Purple
1) ch16 (16).
2-7) sc in second ch from hook,sc 14, ch1, turn (15).
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Sew around half of the wooden ring then sew the head on tightly on top of the ring.
Collar:
With colour: Pink
1) ch21 (21).
2-8) dc in forth ch from hook, 1dc in same stitch, (3dc in next stitch) 17 times (54).
Fasten off and leave a long tail. Sew around the neck.

The pattern I’ve used for inspiration was a pattern created originally by Claudia Stolf for Circulo Yarns. Her Tiger pattern is written for 4ply yarn using a 3mm crochet hook, but I’ve rewritten all of the patterns to use DK yarn and a 4mm hook. The patterns for the other animal characters I’ve designed, I used different pictures as references.
